Massage Techniques
The following Massage Therapy techniques can be incorporated into each personalized session:
Swedish – is a soothing and relaxing experience that works to improve circulation and relieve tension. It uses long strokes, kneading and friction to create a relaxing and energizing outcome that is safe and beneficial for most people.
Deep Tissue – provides similar relaxation benefits but uses a firmer and deeper touch. This type of massage is ideal for anyone with chronic pain areas, tension build up and knots that may not find relief with regular massage.
Neuromuscular – is soft tissue manipulation, which aides in balancing the body’s central nervous system with the musculoskeletal system. Based on neurological laws that explain how the central nervous system initiates and maintains pain, the goal is to help relieve the pain and dysfunction by understanding and alleviating the underlying cause.
Myofascial – uses kneading strokes to stretch, loosen, soften and lengthen muscle tissue. Strokes, which are generally held for at least 2 minutes, are conducted several times on the same muscles to attain a full release.
Prenatal/Pregnancy – a gentle but very tailored massage designed to reduce stress, anxiety and specific physical discomfort that can be experienced while pregnant or immediately following childbirth. During pregnancy, more than any other time in life, massage can have the most physical and emotional benefits.
Reiki – a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reflexology – The application of pressure on reflexes in certain parts of the body (usually feet, hands and ears) that specifically correspond to other glands, organs and parts of the body.
Aromatherapy – is the use of essential oils (extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods and roots) in body and skin care treatments known as aromatherapy. Essential oils aid in relaxation, improve circulation, and help the healing of wounds. Specific oils are blended by the therapist and added to a carrier oil, such as almond oil, to be used during the massage. Each oil has its own unique characteristics and benefits.
Hot Stone – a massage technique, used in conjunction with other modalities, in which warmed stones are placed on points, such as acupuncture points, and sometimes used as massage tools.
